Congratulations, on finally deciding to admit that you absolutely need help to become sober. First and foremost, accept that you are a struggling addict, who is utterly powerless against this powerful demon. Did you know your story will inspire others that are struggling with addiction also. Honestly, you must be absolutely honest will yourself and confess what your drink or drug of choice maybe.

Next, acknowledge that you are constantly rchasing this addiction and the supplies that you need.

Second, admit that you have already have done some really shady shit to get this drug, whenever you needed or wanted it. Unfortunately, you cannot beat this addiction on your own, because you will have to face withdrawals and your own personal demons.

For many years, you have been running from your own frightening demons for years and covering up the pain with your drink or drug of choice. You are suddenly forced to see your inner and outer scars that you have avoided thinking about since they happened. Honestly, just knowing that every single scar that riddles your body was payback for the life that you have chosen. No matter what your drug or drink of choice is, you will find yourself helpless and surrendering to a power greater than yourself.

No matter what you believe in spiritually, you cannot fight addiction alone and you cannot stay in the same environment either. If you really want recovery, just walk away from everyone who does drug or drinks in your life. Cut everyone off and be sure no to remain friends, because they are a lasting connection to get your drug or drink of choice. You will need to immediately start making your final escape plan, which includes moving to a new area of town or a new city.

You could try to get accepted into a recovery program or rehabilitation center, so you can learn and use effective use coping skills when experiencing the roller coaster of emotions that come with the painful withdrawals. Remember to always tell yourself that the pain will not last, because you are getting stronger every single moment and it starts today! Right this moment, you are choosing to become sober for your own reasons and you have diligently fought off temptation.

Every moment of this beautiful day, you are fighting the urge to just go out and use the drink or drug of your choice. Every tiny step is a victory and every moment passes, so hold your head up high as you walking now. This is one of the most important and yet bravest decision you will make, in order to get your life to eve resemble normal. Unfortunately, it is not going to be easy to fix your hot mess of a life in a few days or months, yet with long-term sobriety and hard work on learning new ways to live without your drink or drugs of choice.

Remember…You’re a beast of warrior for choosing sobriety, but hang on tight and never ever give up no matter what!

Time to Reprogram Your Mind

By, Crystal S. Kauffman, Staff Writer

You must learn to reprogram your mind, whenever you are fighting to regain control of your life from active addiction. You must remember that you always attract the same energy that you give off to other people. If you are a negative person, then you will magnetically attract negative people in your life. However, when you change the way you think, you will begin to attract positive people in your life.

Many times, you have to walk away from the old friends, in order to make a new life for yourself. Don’t be afraid to change your surroundings, because you will find that better things are waiting for you, once you let go of the negative things in your mind and life that are holding you back. Changing your mindset will allow you to meet new people and land life changing opportunities, which can actually change your entire life.

You will find that being around positive people and thinking about positive things is so much easier than stressing or obsessing about the negative in your life. Create a journal and write down all the positive things in your life every single morning and night. Stay focused on those positive things in your life, in order to continue attracting positive things in your life.

If you begin to think negatively, stop and reprogram your mind immediately! Never let the intrusive negative thoughts overwhelm your mind, since these thoughts can cause you to relapse and you may not make it out of active addiction this time. Always look for the positive things in your life, because they will help you stay focus and give you countless reasons to love your life.

Positive attracts positive, but negative attracts negative. Always remember that!

Change is Hard, But it is Necessary!

Many times in your life, you will need to evaluate the people who are in your life and their actual value to your life. You will need to ask yourself some important questions about their true character, before you hang out with them for even a moment.Remember, cut ties with any family and friends who are absolutely toxic to your recovery. However, some people are dangerous to your head and you need to know who they are.

These type of people will literally drain every ounce your joy and happiness, because they refuse to get help for their own mental issues. These people tend to be negative and mean, especially when you have good news Unfortunately, they will make you feel like you cannot do nothing right, because they will say negative things about you to your face. The disrespect is constant and tiresome, but you try to overlook these negative qualities because you love them.

Honestly, the pain of letting go, actually hurts less than to stay and endure this type of mental abuse from anyone around you. You may think you need someone, but you don’t need to be bullied in today’s modern society. Honestly, there is cell phone applications for all that you may need: from shopping for groceries, buying restaurant dinners or fast food, clothes, household items, delivery, and rides as needed.

Never allow someone to talk to you that way and always look out for yourself, because no person will ever love you like you love yourself, Don’t give a negative person a single second of your time, because you will end up letting their words enter your head. Don’t spend a second too long, wondering what is wrong with you because of the things these type of people say to you. Truth is, there is nothing wrong with you, they just don’t respect or value you as a person,

So, with that said, identify these people immediately and stop allowing them to enter your life in any type of way. Ask yourself about how a person makes you feel, whenever they talk to you or when they are hanging with you? Only keep the positive people around you, because you will find encouragement and wisdom from them. Now, take inventory of your loved ones today and change the narrative of your story from a negative to positive.

When Life Rains on You, Find the Rainbow

count your blessings

By, Crystal S. Kauffman

Sometimes, life can seem like it does nothing but rain on you, whether it is your finances or your health. It will seem like a damn hurricane is brewing and your holding on for dear life. However, look past the blinding rain and you will see a beautiful rainbow forming in the distance. Stay focused on that rainbow and don’t give up! Each tiresome step will bring you so much closer to the goal that you have set for yourself.

Never let anyone tell you that you are weak or that you are giving up, because you are not doing things the way that they think you should. Honestly, they cannot see what you see, so keep your eyes wide open and keep focused on saving money or changing the way you eat. Whatever your goal is…go at it hard no matter how much rain comes at you because that rainbow is forming. So, focus and dig deep, because you can do anything that you have set your mind too!

Keep your eyes on the goal or rainbow that is ahead of you, but always be aware of distractions which will try to pull you away from your original goal. More rain will enter your life and you will feel defeated; yet don’t lose heart over the setbacks that you will definitely face. Instead, refocus and find that rainbow once again and keep striving to reach it. Before you know it, you will have reached your goal and the rain will have moved while leaving beautiful flowers in its path.

Control Your Own Life

control your life

By, Crystal S. Kauffman

During recovery or even in everyday life, you are going to learn quickly that you will only able to control your own situations and circumstances. Honestly, you cannot control the way anyone else chooses to treat you. You can choose to stay away from any person, who hurts you and does not change their behavior once you have discussed the issue. Save your energy and stay away from the craziness, while focusing on the positive things in your life that make you happy.

Controlling when people come to your home, work, or other places that you go can keep your anxiety level down. However, you can also tell visitors to text or call you before a visit, so you can decide if you want to actually have a visitor over at that time. Sometimes, you may just want to be alone because you feel grouchy and full of anxiety. Setting rules with your visitors will help you regain control over your life, while you focus on healing and meditation.

Furthermore, talk to a mentor on how to control your finances if you need help, because you will need to pay rent and electricity in a stable home. You may also have to pay for water, propane, and/or other necessities inside your home. Learning to control your finances will make you proud and give you a sense of freedom that is amazing after dealing with addiction. Therefore, take control of your finances and your life, so you can find the peace and happiness that you long for everyday.

Build A Life That You Love

By, Crystal S. Kauffman

Changing your life can be extremely difficult with the many different temptations around you. Most of the time, you are far away from the temptation, but sometimes it can be right in your face. This temptation can actually be in the form of a person, who just happened to dropped by to visit you after months or years of not communicating.

Right then, you must decide how you will handle this blast from your past. Will you choose the easy way out, which is to give into temptation? However, you could also visit for a few moments and then politely excuse yourself from the nerve racking situation. Only, you can choose what you will do when you face certain daily temptations.

Be sure to keep your support system on speed dial, because giving in to temptation is not worth the amount of guilt that you will face after your relapse. Stay completely away from circumstances and situations that will challenge your strength, while adding new things that completely inspire you. Start by creating a life that makes it easier for you to remain sober, because you are doing things that you enjoy despite the degree of temptation.

Temptation Moved In Next Store

Image Copyrighted 2019, Imogen Rayne

By, Imogen Rayne

Two months ago, temptation literally moved in next store to me. I became anxious and worried about my own path to recovery as an recovering addict. I have over two years clean from an addiction to Crack cocaine. I didn’t use regularly, but I fell too many times into an addiction trying to beat an addiction to opiates.

First of all, I became angry to see the dealer pull up to his house. Then, I got even angrier when he borrowed something from me and it didn’t matter what it was. Honestly, I never really fought the urge to use that drug again, but I fought the urge to not feel the pain that I feel ever since my cancer treatment within my stomach, back, and legs.

I am so proud of myself, because I was able to truly overcome the devil and keep moving forward in my own recovery and my life. For a moment, I did become weak and I immediately leaned on my support system. They each guided me in the steps to take daily as this drug is displayed in my face on a regular basis.

Most of all, I am praying for the addict, which is all I can do to be honest. I am damn proud of myself for continuing to rock sobriety, even when others thought I would not make it in my sober journey. Additionally, I have had a stable home for nine months and I have worked hard to make amends with my family and friends.

If you are rocking sobriety, give me a “Hell yeah” in the comments!

Hobbies Are Vital…

“Learning Yoga” Copyright 2019, Crystal S. Kauffman

By, Crystal S. Kauffman

There are other things to do to take your mind off things. You need to find people who enjoy the same hobbies that you do. However, you could also learn new obvious that your new friends like.

There are things like fishing, boating, bowling, mudding, racing, horseback riding, and so much more. Look for new things to do, instead of sitting at home and staying stuck inside your own head.

You can find things that do not include other people or a lot of money. However, you may find something that may interest you need to take time to explore new things you and your friends that you have made since you turned your life around.

Never allow anyone to make you feel like there is nothing to do now that you are sober and in recovery. A new life has just begun for you and you should explore new hobbies and friends who live a clean life.

You can make friends at local AA or NA groups, as well as local online groups. Don’t give up on making new friends or new hobbies, just because you’re having a setback at the moment.

Take time to learn from every setback and every new obstacle that you may encounter on your journey. You have the power to change your life, once you’re beaten your demons and have entered recovery.

Look around online for new forms of exercise like: CrossFit, yoga, Pilates, and martial arts to name a few. This new routine of exercising will help you avoid gaining weight once you slay your demons and become sober. Furthermore, Stress can also be managed by creating a regular release system through exercise or new hobbies.

You Can be Redeemed!

By, Crystal S Kauffman

Are you struggling with guilt because of your past addictions? Do you feel like after all you did that no one can honestly love or care about you? Well, no matter how far you were ensnared in addiction, you can be redeemed but you must try to make amends to those you hurt. As long as making amends will not cause more hurt to you or others, you must try to ask for forgiveness and move forward.

Don’t get hung up on your guilt, since all that will do is give you a reason to step backwards and you may die with the next hit or shot. Also, work hard to help those around you in ways that you are able, but don’t let someone else’s problem become your problem. Making bad choices will cost your recovery, so try to make better decisions throughout each day. Call a trusted friend and ask their advice whenever you are unsure of what choice to make.

As you begin taking steps to make amends in your life, you will find that your guilt will no longer be such a heavy burden for you to bear. Remember to just breathe and keep moving forward as you reclaim all that you lost in addiction and more. Go to counseling and AA or NA meetings to learn coping skills that will help you deal with the different emotions that you will feel in recovery. Remember, be humble and just focus on making it through each moment, so you can take it it one day at a time.

One Moment at a Time…

By, Crystal S. Kauffman

In recovery, I hear everyone say take it “One Day at a Time”, but the truth is that you must make it through each moment first. There are 60 minutes within an hour and you must make it through 24 hours each day. My personal belief is that you must make it “One Moment at a Time”, because this is truly the only way you will make it through the day.

Especially, when you choose to enter recovery and take control of your life again. No matter how addiction has grabbed you, be willing to face the ugly truth and take personal inventory of your life.

The first step, is to keep you mind busy, because if all you do is sit around and think about all the mistakes you made. You will lose any ground you have gained in your recovery and begin self destructing again.

Next step, get away from everyone who is toxic to you like friends and family who are still using drugs or using you. Take time to yourself and evaluate who lifts you and who tears you down.

This this time to get real with yourself and decide does your life matter? Find a support group or rehab center to learn coping skills and ways to combat your cravings. You got this, but you have to truly want to be free from addiction.
